It was the same story for Orange County’s two mall retailers in October: Anaheim-based Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. saw a drop in same-store sales while Foothill Ranch-based Wet Seal Inc. was up.
Pacific Sunwear, which operates about 1,000 mall stores selling surf-inspired and ubran-style clothes, reported a 7.1% drop in stores open at least a year last month.
Wall Street had expected a 5.4% drop.
The decline is the latest in a string for the struggling retailer, which saw Seth Johnson recently step down as chief executive amid the bad news.
Wet Seal Inc., which caters to teens and young women with about 415 mall stores, said October same-store sales grew 7.5%.
Analysts on average expected same-store sales to increase 4.4%.
The company said it sees November same-store sales in the low- to mid-single digits.
