P & G; Near Deal to Buy Gillette

Consumer products giant Procter & Gamble Co. is near a deal to buy Gillette Co., the maker of shaving products and Duracell batteries, in a stock swap for $55 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site late on Thursday.
