ORANGE COUNTY IS GETTING A LOT OF ATTENTION THESE DAYS, BUT

last Wednesday was ridiculous.

Irwin Rose was announced as co-winner of the Nobel Prize in chemistry, the third time a UC Irvine researcher has received science’s most-coveted honor.

First Lady Laura Bush joined most of America’s leading businesswomen at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort & Spa (see the Insider, page 3).

Gov. Schwarzenegger spent the day working the county, stopping in Orange for the groundbreaking of the Marion Knott Studios building, part of an ambitious $40 million plan to make Chapman U’s film school an integral part of the Hollywood scene.

And TV viewers across the country had a choice of OC offerings: the Angels-Red Sox playoff game from Anaheim, or MTV’s “Laguna Beach” reality show.

Science, business, politics, film, sports, pop culture.

In one county, on one day.

And, of course, the sun was out, too.
