Oftelie Leaving Business Council

Stan Oftelie, chief executive of the Orange County Business Council since 1997, is stepping down, the group said Thursday.

Oftelie, who ran the Orange County Transportation Authority before joining the business council, plans to stay on as a transportation and infrastructure consultant to the group.

At a special board meeting Thursday, Oftelie said he plans to step down by Sept. 30. He’ll continue to lead the group as the council searches for a new leader.

Chairman Peter Villegas, an executive with Washington Mutual Inc. in OC, said he expects to have a replacement named by the end of summer.
