West Drops Route, Valet Gets Upgrade

America West has thrown in the towel on its John Wayne-to-Sacramento service after a four-month clobbering from Southwest. America West used to dominate the well-traveled route, running several flights a day and typically charging $400 for a round trip, noted Lisa Maresch of First Class International. Then in April Southwest launched four competing flights often priced below $100, which drove down America West’s prices, too … More John Wayne news: The car valet service, now one year old and catering to about 100 persons a day, is getting spiffier. By the end of this month, the airport expects to offer curbside pickup to go along with curbside drop-off,instead of having to take a shuttle to their cars, patrons will be able to phone when they land and have their cars waiting for them outside the terminal. With the daily rate for terminal and off-site parking recently rising to $17 and $12, respectively, the Insider thinks the valet service, holding at $20 a day plus optional tip, is a relative bargain …
