OC Housing Picture Slows

The median price of a home sold in Orange County in October fell 1% to $701,520, compared to a month earlier, but was 12.8% higher than a year ago, the California Association of Realtors said on Monday.

The number of OC home sales in October fell 11.8% from September, but was 5.3% higher than a year ago. Condominium sales are not included in the association’s data.

Statewide, the median price of an existing home sold in October fell 1% to $538,770 compared to September but was up 17.2% from a year ago. The number of sales decreased 4.5% from September and 2.8% compared to last year, the realtors group said.

“While California is still experiencing year-over-year double-digit price appreciation, prices are starting to level off compared with the statewide peak reached in August 2005,” said Vince Malta, president of the California Association of Realtors.
