Jerry Mandel has decided to heck with retirement. The former OC Performing Arts Center prez is taking over as CEO of the Irvine Public Schools Foundation. He succeeds Tim Shaw, who now has a consulting firm, Empower/Excel. As for his volunteer gig as chairman of the OC High School of the Arts, Mandel reports the March 15 gala at the Hyatt Regency Irvine chaired by George and Julia Argyros is sold out with more than 600 attendees: “It’s the hottest ticket in town.” The event is expected to raise about $1 million; auction items include vacations and a trip to the Tony Awards in New York; original photos of Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe and, yes, a night with sax-playing Mandel and his band …
