San Clemente-based Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc. on Wednesday named Steven Goldman as its next chief executive as current leader Bob Alter is set to become chairman.
Sunstone, which owns hotels in California, New York and elsewhere, said Goldman is set to become chief executive on March 19. Alter is set to remain as an executive officer for the rest of the year before becoming chairman.
Goldman has been executive vice president of acquisitions and development for Global Hyatt Corp. He oversaw hotel development and investment.
Sunstone also named Jon Kline as president.
“We have a management team that can lead us into the next stage of growth for this company,” Alter said. “I can, therefore, assume the role of chairman of the board confident in the knowledge that Sunstone is well positioned for the future.”
Alter turned a small Colorado condominium and hotel management company into one of the nation’s largest hotel owners.
He’s taken Sunstone public not once but twice, including in 2004, when the company raised $413 million in the largest Orange County stock debut of that year.
In recent years, Alter has bought more upscale hotels, making acquisitions in New York, Hollywood and Newport Beach.
