Fountain Valley-based Memorial Health Services said last week it is selling its 224-bed Anaheim Memorial Medical Center to AHMC Healthcare Inc. of Alhambra.
A purchase price wasn’t disclosed.
Memorial has been trying to sell Anaheim Memorial, which opened in 1958 and will require a pricey retrofitting project to meet the state’s hospital safety laws, for nearly three years. Memorial has operated the hospital since 1995.
Memorial’s previous deals for Anaheim Memorial with three other hospital operators all fell through because of financing issues or because they were blocked by Attorney General Jerry Brown’s office.
Approval from Brown’s office is required when a nonprofit hospital, such as Anaheim Memorial, is sold to a for-profit operator. AHMC is a for-profit operator.
