McCarthy Building Cos. Inc., a commercial builder with a regional headquarters in Newport Beach, was awarded two contracts for projects at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. McCarthy said those contracts were its first with the hospital known for celebrity patients.
McCarthy will be the general contractor for the S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center and Department, a facility with a $34 million construction budget. As part of that, McCarthy will renovate approximately 65,000 square feet on three floors in Cedars-Sinai’s main building to house the imaging services and build an adjacent four-story addition with another 65,000 square feet for further facilities.
The builder said it expects to complete the new building in February 2002, and the renovation in March 2002.
McCarthy’s second contract is for pre-construction services on Cedars-Sinai’s pending North Care Tower, a facility with a $69 million price tag. Construction on that tower is scheduled to start in 2002; McCarthy’s role includes evaluating the project for the hospital.
