Makar Plans Another Ocean Course; Disney Keeps ‘Tower’ Name

OC INSIDER

by Rick Reiff

Paul Makarechian has one golf course on the ocean (Monarch Beach in Dana Point), why not two? His Makar Properties (affiliated with dad Hadi Makarechian’s Capital Pacific Holdings) hopes to begin construction by year’s end on the tentatively named Dos Pueblos Golf Links, on 200 acres in Santa Barbara just north of the Bacara Resort and Spa. “We have county approval and environmental agency approvals and are finalizing our Coastal Commission processing,” Paul says … Theme-park czar Paul Pressler says Disney has decided to keep the “Tower of Terror” name for the thrill ride it plans to add to Anaheim’s California Adventure in 2004. In the immediate wake of the collapse of the World Trade Center there was speculation Disney might rename the ride. But Pressler says there have been no complaints about the name from pa-trons of Disney World in Orlando, Fla., where the ride, which simulates an elevator fall in a haunted Hollywood hotel, remains a featured attraction. Pressler notes that the full name is “The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror” and that by the time it opens here almost three years will have elapsed since the Sept. 11 tragedy. Pressler calls the ride “the killer app”,a certain boost for California Adventure

More from Michael Eisner’s recent talk to the Chapman U Economic Forum: Disney’s boss told the largely business crowd that Hollywood’s constant portrayal of corporate executives as stupid or conniving annoys him, too. “I complain about it but usually the person I’m complaining to says, ‘We’re portraying you perfectly'”

Eisner even joked about ABC’s failed attempt to replace Ted Koppel with David Letterman: “I’m not doing a Top 10 List for obvious reasons”
