Newport Beach-based Macsteel Service Centers USA Inc. said last week it plans to buy Chicago’s Alpha Processing Inc. for an undisclosed price.
Alpha Processing is owned by Paul H. Athens and a group of investors. The company is set to operate as a separate unit under Macsteel Service’s Midwest division.
Management of the steel processing unit will not change, Macsteel said in a release.
Macsteel Service operates at 32 locations in the U.S. and has 1,500 workers. The company processes and distributes carbon, stainless, aluminum and specialty metals to customers in North America and Puerto Rico.
The company’s products include flat rolled, plate, tubing, pipe, bar and structurals steel.
Macsteel Service is owned by South Africa’s Macsteel Holdings.
