Louise E. Pomeroy, founder of Abigail Abbott Staffing Services Inc., has died

Louise E. Pomeroy, founder of Abigail Abbott Staffing Services Inc., died late last month.

Pomeroy, who founded Tustin-based Abigail Abbott in 1970, said she once applied for a Los Angeles city job and was told she was too old for the position. After that, she never disclosed her age.

Three years before founding Abigail Abbott, Pomeroy was forced back to work after the business she and her husband invested in went bankrupt.

After two years of working for an employment agency, Pomeroy and a co-worker started their own firm. When that partnership dissolved, Pomeroy and her daughter, Diane Pomeroy-Bendis, founded Abigail Abbott.

Up until 1995, Pomeroy was president and chief executive of Abigail Abbott. It was then that Pomeroy relinquished management to an all-female, five-member executive board.

Now in its 30th year, the company has spread throughout Orange County with offices in Brea, Lake Forest, Newport Beach and Tustin. Abbott Resource Group Inc., parent company of Abigail Abbott, ranked third on the Business Journal’s 2001 list of women-owned OC businesses.
