Logical Imaging Solutions Inc., a Santa Ana printing equipment maker, is being purchased by Color Image Inc., a Georgia company that makes toners for laser printers.
The 6-year-old Orange County company was known for its line of high-speed digital color printers and recently launched its ColorPress service, which offered offset and digital printing over the Internet.
According to officials with the company, LIS’s technology overcomes the most serious limitations of traditional printing methods, namely the static nature of a print run, while offering faster print time than other digital printing systems. The offset press cannot print variable data and is dependent on many prepress operations, including the creation of plates and mixing of inks.
The two companies had collaborated on the system over the past two years, and the merger is expected to accelerate the product’s development.
Terms of the deal, which has yet to be approved by shareholders, are not being released.
