Linksys, Yahoo! Unveil Music Device

Linksys, an Irvine-based unit of Cisco Systems Inc., on Thursday unveiled a device with Yahoo! Inc. for playing digital music throughout the house.

Linksys’ new Wireless-G Music Bridge links songs stored on computers to home stereos via wireless frequencies.

The device works with Yahoo! Music Engine, software for buying songs online and burning them to CDs.

The move is another effort by technology companies to tap the emerging market for networked consumer electronics, where Linksys already has made inroads with its wireless devices.

Cisco acquired Linksys for $500 million in 2003.
