Home Depot Inc. could lay off up to 57 workers at a division office in Orange, the company said.
Home Depot previously announced plans to consolidate some of its Orange, Chicago and Marietta, Ga., operations at the company’s Atlanta headquarters, said Kathryn Gallagher, a spokeswoman with the Home Depot Western division in Orange.
The Orange division is at 3800 W. Chapman Ave.
“The Western division office located in Orange will continue as a regional office,” Gallagher said. “The staffing for the Orange office is being reviewed.”
She declined to elaborate, other than to say the possible layoffs are not related to a Home Depot store.
The layoffs were filed with the California Employment Development Department and appear on the unit’s “Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification” list.
California requires businesses to give workers and other state and local representatives a 60-day warning of plant closings or mass layoffs.
Home Depot’s possible layoff date is June 3, according to the employment department’s Web site.
On May 17, Home Depot, the nation’s largest home improvement chain, said it planned to close 15 of its 54 Expo Design Centers, possibly cutting 2,000 jobs.
One of the design centers set to be closed is in Northern California. Overall, Home Depot has 1,911 stores in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Earlier this year, Home Depot said it plans to open 175 stores in 2005.
