Coastline Community College in Fountain Valley earned the Institution Award from the Council of College and Military Educators. The award recognizes educational institutions that offer educational programs and services to members of the armed services.
Irvine’s Toshiba America Business Solutions Inc., a maker of copiers, printers, scanners and faxes, earned multiple awards for its e-Studio series of color products. It received an editor’s choice award from Better Buys for Business, two awards from BERTL Inc. and a four and a half start rating from Buyers Laboratory Inc.
Silicon Systems Inc. in Aliso Viejo won Electronic Design magazine’s 2008 Best Electronic Design Award for its SiliconDrive USB Blade, a flash memory drive.
Children’s Hospital of Orange County in Mission Viejo received a Silver Level Award from the California Council for Excellence. CHOC is the only children’s hospital in the state to earn this distinction.
Landscape architects Summers/Murphy & Partners Inc. of Dana Point and Danielian Associates Architects & Planners of Irvine won a Gold Award at the National Association of Home Builders International Builders Show. The local firms worked on the 2009 New American Home, a concept home in Last Vegas that demonstrates the latest trends and techniques in architecture and building.
Eight lawyers at the Newport Beach office of Newmeyer & Dillion LLP were named Southern California Super Lawyers by Los Angeles magazine. Repeat honorees from last year were: Greg Dillion, Tom Newmeyer, Mike Cucchissi, Jane Samson, Joe Ferrentino and Mark Himmelstein. Cheryl Van Steenwyk made the list for the first time.
James J. McDonald Jr. from the Irvine office of Fisher & Phillips LLP was named a 2009 Super Lawyer for Southern California by Law & Politics magazine. He represents companies in labor and employment law

Tierra Verde Landscape Inc. in Huntington Beach received first place honors from the California Landscape Contractors Association for its landscaping at Spinnaker Bay Home Owner’s Association in Long Beach.
Gemini Forest Products took Business of the Year honors at the Los Alamitos Chamber of Commerce annual awards ceremony. Johanna Zinter received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Kenny Brandyberry was named Man of the Year. Renee Keller of Lee Elementary School was named Teacher of the Year.
Michele Linaweaver was named Employee of the Year at Hayes Martin Associates Inc. in Newport Beach. Linaweaver began working at the company as an account executive and now is vice president. Hayes Martin is a marketing, advertising and public relations company for homebuilders and developers.
SJA Inc. in San Juan Capistrano received two Gold Awards at The Nationals, a competition in various areas of homebuilding. SJA won in the boards detached community category, as well as best landscape design for a detached community.
Laguna Hills-based Orange County Pest Control Inc. earned the QualityPro designation. QualityPro companies have met qualifications built around four key principles: business operations, consumer relations, environmental stewardship and technical training.
