Laguna Woods Village was named Best Retirement Community in Orange County for the fourth consecutive year by the Orange County Register. Lake Forest-based Professional Community Management Inc. oversees day-to-day operations of the community association.
Tom Bogard was named Engineer of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers Orange Coun-ty chapter. Bogard is the director of highway development for the Orange County Transportation Authority.
Dean Zipser, a partner at the Costa Mesa office of Manatt Phelps & Phillips LLP, was named to the BTI Consulting 2009 Client Service All-Star team. Zipser is a past president of the Orange County Bar Association and of the local chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
Kevin Turner received the Man of Character Award from the Orange County Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Turner is senior vice president in the Irvine office of Voit Commercial Brokerage LP.
Actingbiz.com and mfaactor.com both ranked the graduate acting programs at Claire Trevor School of the Arts at University of California, Irvine, eighth in the country.
Jason Harnett was named Coach of the Year by the International Wheelchair Tennis Association. Harnett has been teaching wheelchair tennis in Mission Viejo for 13 years. He was assistant coach for the U.S. wheelchair tennis team at the 2004 and 2008 Paralympic Games.
Alzheimer’s Family Services Center in Huntington Beach was recognized by the Mature Market Resource Center with a Silver Award at the National Mature Media Awards program. The award recognizes advertising, marketing and educational materials designed and produced for older adults.
Phyllis Fender accepted a Technical Grammy on behalf of her late husband Clarence “Leo” Fender at a special invitation-only ceremony during Grammy Week in Los Angeles. Fender is honorary chairman of G & L; Musical Instruments in Fullerton.
Mark Minyard was named the Orange County Best Lawyers’ Family Lawyer of the Year. Best Lawyers Magazine designates lawyers of the year in several legal specialties.
Anaheim White House restaurateur Bruno Serato was recognized for his philanthropic efforts with Caterina’s Club, which feeds more than 50,000 children each year. Serato, who funded the club, will be honored at the Anaheim Boys & Girls Clubs’ annual gala this month.
Newport Beach attorney Violet Woodhouse was named a Southern California Super Lawyer by Los Angeles magazine. Woodhouse is a former recipient of the National Leadership Award for her dedication to the Republican Party and is a best-selling author.
The South Coast Metro Alliance honored several local security professionals with Security Officers of the Year awards: Jacinto Ruiz, Rene Morillo, Henry Rosslow, Kevin Trappen and Fabian Tramkim. The officers were honored for their service to the South Coast Metro area.
