The University of California Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business tied for 25th place among MBA programs’ career placement services in the U.S., according to a survey published by CNNMoney.com. The Merage School is the only MBA program west of the Mississippi River to average three job offers for each graduating student.
The Orange City of Commerce & Visitor Bureau named Roger Hobbs Citizen of the Year. Hobbs is chief executive of R.C. Hobbs Co., a real estate development company in Orange and Riverside counties, chairman of Community Foundation of Orange and a big giver to Chapman University.
Roger’s Gardens in Corona del Mar was honored as one of the nation’s top five Revolutionary Garden Centers for 2007 by Today’s Garden Center, a retail industry publication. Roger’s Gardens won a regional award by scoring the highest points of any garden center on the West Coast. The annual award recognizes garden centers that excel in technology, marketing, community involvement, training and profitability.

James McDonald Jr., managing partner of Fisher & Phillips LLP in Irvine, was named a Southern California 2007 Super Lawyer by Law & Politics magazine. Only 5% of Southern California attorneys are chosen as Super Lawyers.
The graphics department of Newport Beach-based Ambassadors LLC won the International Academy of Visual Arts 2006 Silver Davey Award for the Isuzu Affair to Remember entry. The Davey Awards are judged and overseen by the International Academy of Visual Arts, a group of leading professionals in visual arts.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the city of Anaheim. The award represents the city’s achievements in government budgeting.
Marc Winthrop, of Newport Beach-based Winthrop Couchot, received the 2006 Peter M. Elliott Award. The award is given by the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum to a bar member who embodies the principals Judge Elliott demonstrated throughout his career: legal scholarship, mentorship, education, honesty, integrity, commitment to ethics, efficiency and compassion.

Nakisa Aschtiana, Jon Lavranos and Tyler Nielsen from Saddleback College’s Theatre Arts department were nominated to audition for the Irene Ryan Acting scholarship at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival at Southern Utah University. The Irene Ryan Scholarships provide recognition, honor and financial assistance to outstanding student performers annually.
