The Sutton Place Hotel in Newport Beach was awarded Meetings & Conventions Magazine’s gold key award for consistent excellence in serving the meeting industry.

Mission Viejo-based TLG Paving Co. was named one of the country’s top contractors by Pavement Magazine for the second year in a row.

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology recognized Dr. Martin Favero, director of scientific and clinical affairs for Johnson & Johnson’s Advanced Sterilization Products unit in Irvine, with its lectureship award. The award recognizes superior lifetime work in disaffection, antisepsis and sterilization.

Jane Jackson of Santa Ana’s Coastal Communities Hospital was honored by Tenet Healthcare Corp. as one of the hospital operator’s outstanding chief nursing officers for 2003. Jackson was recognized for her exceeding goals for key patient treatment, high performance and customer care.

The Orange County council of AeA honored Gordon Taylor, chief executive of Irvine-based Racal Instruments Inc. as its 2003 outstanding executive. Taylor has been with Racal Instruments for more than 40 years and led a buyout of the company last year.

Golden West College English Professor Dibakur Barua received the John W. Rice Award for Diversity and Equity. Barua received the statewide award for promoting diversity and student equality in community colleges.

KTGY Group earned 13 merit honors in the 2003 Gold Nugget Awards competition. Gold Nugget awards recognize creative achievement in architectural design and land use.

The National Science Foundation awarded The Ocean Institute in Dana Point a three-year grant for $863,000. The foundation awards the most significant programs in the county.

Irvine Community Development Co., part of the The Irvine Company, received the Gold Nugget Award for its Shady Canyon housing development in Irvine. The award recognizes the development’s preservation and naturalistic design.

Sharon Winston of Lee Hecht Harrison was awarded the 2003 Adecco Chairman’s Award. The award recognizes executives for their efforts in company growth and quality management.

Karen Peterson, president of Lunchtime Inc., earned the school foodservice and nutrition specialist credential. This credential recognizes those who have achieved high academic and work experience in their field.

Santa Clara-based Align Technology Inc., a maker of teeth-straightening products, recognized Dr. Jason T. Bock as one of the top Invisalign doctors in North America. Bock earned the award for having the most new Invisalign patients for the year. Dr. Bock has served Orange County patients for nearly 20 years.

Orange County’s Stephanie Hardy won three gold medals in equestrian competitions at the Special Olympics World Games in Ireland. Despite being born with microcephaly, Hardy has been able to ride horses for 14 years.

Strata-Media, and Orange-based advertising agency, won the Gold ADDY Award for outstanding print collateral material from the American Advertising Federation.

Orange County Register Business Reporter Jan Norman received a certificate of appreciation recognizing her service to the small business community from Daryl Watton, chair of the Orange County Chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives.

The City of Tustin won the national publication marketing award from the National Association of Installation Developers for marketing of the former Marine Corp Air Station Tustin, renamed the Tustin Legacy Project.
