The Oak Creek community was named project of the year and Terry Hartman of the Irvine Co. was named 1999 engineer of the year by the American Society of Civil Engineers OC Chapter.

Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel banquet Sous Chef and kitchen quality leader, John Smith was named winner of the 1999 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Michael Lawrence was named 1999 top broker by Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Brokerage Company. The company, whose 1999 sales surpassed $5.2 billion, is the nation’s largest real estate investment brokerage firm.

Winfred K. Johnson of Mission Viejo received the Mission Hospital Foundation Vision Award. Johnson, Mission Hospital’s vice president of development, was recognized for her leadership, fund-raising efforts, dedication and commitment to the hospital.

The Sales & Marketing Council of the Building Industry Association of Southern California honored 13 individuals, including Lilly Christiansen, Betty Cowan and Nancy Chan with 1999 sales awards. They were recognized for their selling skills and creativity in overcoming constraints.

Dawson Hannouche Pate Architects, Newport Beach, earned the 25th annual MAME Awards for Residence 3 at ‘Wyeth.” The plan was given best product design for a detached home of 3,000 to 4,000 square feet.

KTGY Group, Irvine, received 1999 Best In American Living Awards co-sponsored by NAHB and Professional Builder, a national competition that recognizes excellence in residential design.

President of Psomas and Associates, Tim Psomas, was named engineer of the year by the American Society of Civil Engineers, Orange County, and the engineer of merit award was presented to Psomas project manager, Sam Ali. Psomos was recognized for his outstanding professional qualities and a reputation for engineering accomplishment and leadership.

Jack Hawkins of La Habra was named California Teacher of the Year for Orange County from among 52 contestants. The competition is sponsored by Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. and Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc.

Randy M. Kalish received the leadership in engineering award from the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering for his achievements in land development and entertainment projects.

JBZ Architecture and Planning, a Newport Beach-based architectural firm, received a 2000 Best of Home design award from the Assisted Living Federation of America. The national award recognizes the firm’s design and land plan for Crown Cove, an assisted living and Alzheimer’s care facility in Corona del Mar.

Mike Raley, general manager of Tuttle-Click Ford in the Irvine Auto Center, presented a brand new 2000 Ford Focus to Cheryl Adcock of Trabuco Canyon. Adcock won a drawing at Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate School’s bi-annual fundraiser, Family Fun Night.

The Assessment and Treatment Services Center recently announced the recipients of its 2000 recognition awards. At a reception hosted by Five Crowns Restaurant, Corona del Mar, Western Digital, Irvine, received the Corporate Award, while Sotera Townsend of Newport Beach received the Terri A. Olshefsky Memorial Award for Volunteer Service and Catherine Thyen from Corona Del Mar received the Founders Award. The annual awards recognize companies and individuals that have been essential in supporting ATSC’s activities throughout the year.

The American Lung Association of Orange County hosted the Clean Air Community Leaders Award Ceremony of Orange County, which rewards community leaders for their contributions to improve the air we breathe. The winner of the County Award was the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), while the city of Anaheim received the Government Award. American Livery Inc. was honored with the Corporate Award, and the Individual Award went to Greg Hanssen of Irvine.

The Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County presented its annual Service Awards. The Ambassador Performance Group, Newport Beach, received the Robert Guggenheim Award. The Ernest K. Coulter Award for exemplary individual volunteer service to the agency was presented to Joel K. Rubenstein, while Erik DiPaolo, Dick Gebhard, Trindl Reeves, Brian Schaefgen, Carolyn Stephens, and Joseph Ueberroth each received an Outstanding Service Award for their volunteer service to the group.

FieldCentrix’s FX Mobile software and Rainbow Technologies’ Cryptoswift software, both based in Irvine, received the American Electronics Association 2000 Award for Innovative Product and Technology.

The YMCA of Orange County Board of Directors presented Corona del Mar resident Nancy O’Keefe Altobello with its 1999 Distinguished Service Award for outstanding volunteer service, while also honoring eight other Orange County residents for their efforts. James Armstrong of Fullerton, David Gruchow of Yorba Linda, Ray Peckham of Huntington Beach, Philip Wilson of Newport Beach, Jessica Barajas of Anaheim, Bob Orozco of Laguna Niguel, Carlos Saenz of Mission Viejo and Dave Atkinson of San Clemente were all recognized for their volunteer contributions to the foundation.

The city of Santa Ana recently presented the Community Building Award to Larry Webb and Dan Nahabedian of John Laing Homes, Irvine. The honor applauds the pair’s involvement in the city and the company’s contribution to Santa Ana’s Emmanuel House, a shelter for the homeless with HIV or AIDS.

Ed Laird, President and CEO of Coatings Resource Corp. in Huntington Beach, was presented with the 2000 Lee Atwater Award by the Republican Party of Orange County.

The Orange County Rescue Mission presented its Legacy Awards to the following individuals for their commitment in helping Orange County’s homeless population. This year’s recipients include Gail Stranske, Irvine; David Buchan D.D.S., Lake Forest; the New Song Community Church, Fullerton; Anaheim Hills Net; Pacific Life Good Guys, Newport Beach; Axcess Architects, Huntington Beach; and Rhiana Menen, Orange.

Creative Strategy Partners, Fullerton, was awarded two silver medals and two bronze medals at the 2000 Summit Creative Awards. The awards were created to recognize exceptional work from advertising agencies with annual billings of $15 million or less.

Arts Orange County recently honored the Laguna Playhouse with the first annual Orange County Arts Award as an Outstanding Arts Organization in the Theatre category.
