The Orange County Human Relations 14th annual high school walk in my shoes symposium on intercultural cooperation raised more than $40,000. The walk was supported by Bank of America, City National Bank, Kaiser Permanente, Union Bank of California, Washington Mutual and Wells Fargo.

Sandy Finestone was awarded the national Komen outstanding volunteer of the year award for lifetime achievement. Sandy is president of Orange County affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and has been involved since its creation in 1991.

Demetri Gutierrez recently graduated from Harvard Business School’s executive education program. Gutierrez is a real estate agent with Irvine-based CapitalEquity.com.

Kelly D. Moore, president of Irvine’s Moore Benefits Inc., was named a certified employee benefits specialist by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. Moore had to pass a series of 10 employee-benefits exams for the accreditation. She is one of 8,600 such graduates worldwide.

Lisa Ann Dale, chief executive of Aliso Viejo-based Seabreeze Management Co. will serve as chair for the 7th annual Mission Hospital holiday gala. The gala committee has a goal of raising $330,000.

Harold and Paulette Fryer were named philanthropists of the year by the Saddleback Memorial Medical Center’s foundation. The couple has supported Saddleback Memorial since 1991. Meanwhile, Charles and Martha Hellmann were named community leaders of the year by Saddleback Memorial. The Hellmanns live in Laguna Woods and have been involved with the hospital for nearly 20 years. And Laguna Woods resident Hannasue Stell was awarded the medical center’s capture the spirit award. Steel has volunteered more than 14,600 hours at Saddleback Memorial since the hospital’s founding in 1974.

Major Eldon Dryden Pence III was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his service in the 17th psychological operations battalion. A veteran of the Gulf war, Pence is chief investment officer for Pence Wealth Management in Newport Beach.

Karen Mills and Paula Milano were named Women in Technology International’s “Entrepreneurs of 2002.” Mills and Milano, owners of Irvine-based Axion Solutions Inc., were honored for their contributions to the technology industry.

Westminster-based Edison ESI Metrology, a unit of Southern California Edison Co., has earned ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation program.

Cathy Wills received a Prudential community champions golden star award of $5,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. Wills, a broker associate for Prudential Financial Inc., averages 40 volunteer hours a month and has assisted more than 600 women.

Tim Fairbank of Irvine passed the California Professional Engineers examination. The RBF Consulting employee met all the eligibility requirements and passed the 16-hour exam.

Rinker Co. owner Harry S. Rinker of Newport Beach was inducted as a lifetime member of the Horatio Alger Association as a role model for overcoming adversity. Members of the Association mentor young people and sponsor more than $4 million in need-based scholarships.

Advertising agency Lawrence & Ponder IdeaWorks earned three silver and three merit awards from the California Department of Health Services. The company was honored for its television programs that promoted physical activity.

DelTaco.com, the Web site of Lake Forest-based Del Taco Inc., received the 2002 WebAward standard of excellence. The Web site designed by Big Man Creative has attracted thousands of food fans.

The Verizon Foundation has given the Children’s Bureau a $5,000 grant. The non-profit organization is a leader in child abuse prevention and treatment.

Hank Adler, a partner in the Costa Mesa offices of Deloitte & Touche LLP was awarded the Community Impact Award, and a $5,000 donation to the charity of his choice, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. Adler has volunteered at Hoag for 30 years.

Verizon Foundation has awarded Blind Children’s Learning Center a $75,000 grant. The learning center is dedicated to giving blind and visually impaired students a place to improve their reading and computer shills.

The Hilton Anaheim was inducted to Meetings & Conventions magazine’s hall of fame. The Hilton became one of only 12 hotels in the hall of fame when it was inducted in November.

Dr. Deborah Newquist recently received the Adele Elkind award from the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers. Newquist, the founder of Senior Care Resources in Newport Beach, was honored for her contributions to geriatrics.

Kris Weber recently became a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. The Hunsaker & Associates Inc. employee was one of only 100 people certified last year.

PainePR was awarded best of show by the Public Relations Society of America. PainePR was established in 1989.

Kenneth B. Roath, chief executive of Health Care Property Investors Inc., received the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts’ 2002 REIT industry leadership award. Roath was honored for the contributions he has made to the real estate investment industry.

Barbara de Boom was named 2002’s Outstanding Business Woman in Orange County. De Boom is the chief executive of the Orange Chamber of Commerce.

Bill Flinn, founder and chief executive of Scope Packaging Inc., became the 21st inductee into the Association of Independent Corrugated Converters’ hall of fame. The award recognizes those who have made a contribution to the independent sector of the corrugated packaging industry.

Roy Gerber, president of Air Cleaning Solutions, was recognized by the Environmental Awards Board for his efforts to preserve and protect environmental resources. Since 1999 Air Cleaning Solutions has designed and installed air filtration systems in many Southern California companies.

John Hollingsworth has been awarded with an Asset Achievement Award by Wachovia Securities. To be eligible for the Asset Achievement award, one has to have a client base that controls more than $100 million in combined assets.

Eddie Torres recently received his certification as a member of the institute of Noise Control Engineering Association. The RBF consulting employee was required to meet all education requirements and pass a written exam.

Mel Rogers hosted KOCE-TV’s president’s party. More than 130 guests were in attendance to honor the station’s president circle donors.
