Melinda Morgan Kartsonis was added to the Los Angeles/Orange County Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier Inter-national. Kartsonis is president and founder of Morgan Marketing and Public Relations LLC in Irvine. Membership is extended to women with five years of experience in the culinary, fine beverage and hospitality industries.
Harriett Wieder received the Good Scout Lifetime Giving Award from the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America. Wieder is former chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors and has been involved in politics involving healthcare, trade and business. The award recognizes industry and civic leaders for their community support.
Irvine-based RiechesBaird won a Bronze Telly Award for its Smokestack entry. The animated short was developed on behalf of its client, Sharp Solar Energy Solutions Group. The ad was entered in the Best Use of Animation category for regional television and multi-market cable. The Telly Awards honor commercials and video productions.
Coastline Community College in Fountain Valley won an Emmy from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at the Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards. Coastline won in the Best Instructional Programming category for its series “Physical Anthropology: the Evolving Human.” Coastline’s productions are utilized in its distance-learning program.
Karen McGlinn received the Community Healthcare Research Advocate Award at the University of California, Irvine, Chancellor’s Awards. McGlinn has served as executive director of Share Our Selves for the past 12 years and was a founding board member 39 years ago.
Santa Ana nonprofit Mind Research Institute won the EdNet Pioneer Award for its contributions to the education industry. Mind developed an algebra readiness program to help students with basic math skills. Its coursework, text and professional development programs have been proven to improve test scores.
Toyo Tire USA Corp., the Cypress-based U.S. headquarters of Japan’s Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., was rated the best overall brand for medium truck tires in Tire Review magazine’s annual tire brand study of North American tire dealers. Toyo has received the same ranking four years in a row.
Fisher & Phillips LLP partners James McDonald Jr. and John Polson were included in the Best Lawyers in America ranking. McDonald’s practice involves litigation of all types of employment disputes. Polson specializes in compliance advice, transactional work and litigation.
Manatt Phelps & Phillips LLP attorney Keli Osaki was named Pro Bono Counsel of the Year at the firm’s Pro Bono Service Awards. Osaki volunteered to assist Holocaust survivors in obtaining reparation payments from Germany. She also helped secure a favorable settlement on a zoning issue, allowing a Vietnamese Buddhist congregation to build its temple in Garden Grove. Osaki is based in the Costa Mesa office.
The Professional Salon Industry Division of the City of Hope honored Jim and Cheryl Markham with its Spirit of Life Award. Jim has been named Ernst & Young LLP’s Entrepreneur of the Year and has worked as a hairstylist to Paul Newman and Robert Redford.
Gary Stork was named Administrator of the Year by the Southern California Association of Activity Professionals. Pam King was recognized as Director of Nursing of the Year. Both work at ParkVista, the onsite health center for the continuing care retirement community Morningside of Fullerton.
UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange was selected for the Top Hospitals list by the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Hospitals were ranked for quality and safety, performance in high-risk procedures and automation.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District recognized UC Irvine Parking & Transportation Services with a Clean Air Award for its Sustainable Transportation Program. The program reduces congestion and improves air quality by offering the campus eco-friendly transportation alternatives.
Bradley Hume of Lake Forest and Patrick Prendiville of San Juan Capistrano were granted admission to the president’s council of Farmers Group Inc.
Six lawyers at the Newport Beach office of Newmeyer & Dillion LLP were named Super Lawyer Rising Stars by California Super Lawyers magazine. Each was a repeat honoree from last year: Jeff Dennis, Shane Coons, Chuck Krolikowski, Jay Freedman, Laura Ives and Carol Zaist.
