Irvine-based Thomas P. Cox Architects won top honors at this year’s Gold Nugget Awards for its design of 7950 West Sunset in Los Angeles. The urban infill, mixed-use apartment building was selected as Residential Community of the Year.
Trudy Haussmann of Haussmann Financial Inc. in Newport Beach was named to Securities America’s Circle of Stars. The award honors Securities America’s top 10 representatives based on commissions and fees.
Orange County Great Park designer and lead ecologist Steven Handel received a 2009 National Honor Award for Research from the American Society of Landscaped Architects. Handel was honored for his research project titled Restoration Ecology Processed to Advance Natural Landscape Design. The OC Great Park design team also won a professional award from the society for its work on the Observation Balloon Preview Park.
Arts Orange County awarded Jerry Samuelson, dean of the College of Fine Arts at California State University, Fullerton, a Helena Modjeska Cultural Legacy award. The award is named for one of the county’s most prominent early artists.
Huntington Beach-based Alzheimer’s Family Services Center’s Jumpstart program received a bronze award at the 16th annual National Health Information Awards. Jumpstart is an education program for people in the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s, as well as for their caretakers and family members.
The Violence Prevention Coalition of Orange County gave Vivian Clecak its 13th Annual Ambassador Peace Award. The award acknowledges individuals actively engaged in the prevention of violence in Orange County. Clecak co-founded Irvine-based Human Options, an organization working to stop domestic violence.
The Santa Ana Police Department received a 2009 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award from the Department of Defense. It is the highest recognition given by the federal government to employers who support workers who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. The award was presented at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.
Mike Gillis, the Irvine-based managing vice president of global Microsoft relationship for Hitachi Consulting Corp., was honored as the initial inductee into the Microsoft Dynamics Partner Advisory Council Hall of Fame. He received the trophy at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in New Orleans.
