Henry Schielein, chief operating officer and president of the Balboa Bay Club & Resort in Newport Beach, was honored with the Ambassador Premier award for his contributions to the industry by Les Toques Blanches, a Paris-based group of professional chefs and affiliates.
Janet Boling, director of Cypress-based PacifiCare Health Systems Inc.’s A Solution for Caregivers program was appointed to the board of the National Alliance for Caregiving. Boling will serve a three-year term.
Jackie Buck, executive vice president of finance and administration at R.D. Olson Construction in Irvine, was elected national chairperson of the Construction Financial Management Assoc-iation, a nonprofit based out of Princeton, N.J.
Dr. Henry Samueli, chairman, cofounder and chief technical officer of Irvine chipmaker Broadcom Corp., was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in Cambridge, Mass.
Echo Media Group, a public relations company based in Tustin, received four Polaris awards from the Public Relations Society of America, including the Best of Show award, a special honor for the top overall entry.
Santa Ana-based Aleks Corp., a provider of online tutorial and learning assistance to students, received the 2004 Codie Award for Best Post Secondary Education Instructional Solution from the Software and Information Industry Association.
Lake Forest-based InSight Health Corp., a provider of diagnostic imaging services, received two Stevie awards at the second annual 2004 American Business Awards competition. The company’s corporate video, “We Have Survived” received the Best Corporate Video (Motivational) award and Michelle Underwood, operations manager at InSight’s St. John’s Regional Imaging Center in Oxnard, was named best plant, facility or office manager.
Les Goldberg Public Relations in Santa Ana received an Icon Award from Adweek’s Technology Marketing magazine for its campaign work for client Deja View Inc. of Brick, N.J.
California State University, Fullerton moved up to sixth place in the nation for awarding bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics, according to Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education’s annual Top 100 listing. Last year, the school was ranked No. 8.
Rose Mary Bordwell, owner of Bordwell & Associates, a legal staffing firm that is based in Newport Beach, was named Staffing Professional of the Year by California Staffing Professionals.
San Clemente-based Collaborative West received seven Major Achievement in Marketing Excellence awards from the Sales & Marketing Council of the Building Industry Association of Southern California. The landscape architectural company also received seven Pacific Coast Builders Conference Awards of Merit.
Silas H. Abrego, associate vice president for student affairs at California State University, Fullerton, received two awards: a 2004 Estrella Award from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Orange County and a 2004 Hispanic Influential Award from the Orange County United Way.
Inland Empire’s Sales and Marketing Council selected Irvine-based Danielian Associates Inc. for top honors at the 16th Annual Laurel Awards in the “Best Product Design Detached 3601 Square Feet and Above” category. Danielian received the award for its Fairway Classics at Redhawk plan 2 in Temecula.
RFDomus Inc., an Irvine-based maker of chips for wireless communications, was voted one of five Most Promising Start-Ups at the Third Semiconductor Venture Fair held in San Jose.
Tempe, Ariz.-based Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute named MemorialCare Medical Centers the 2004 winner of the Pharmacy Benefit Innovation Award. MemorialCare includes Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills, Anaheim Memorial Medical Center and Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley.
Peter F. Bastone, chief executive and president of Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, was awarded a Master of Arts in Health Care Mission from the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis.
Mission Viejo-based Location Management Services, which offers site selection and incentive management services, received Site Selection magazine’s William Dorsey Award for superior service.
Carole Kaye was named Top Branch Manager by San Diego-based BANKtemps Career Placement, which provides recruiting and staffing services to the financial services community. Kaye manages the company’s Irvine office.
Sandra Sutphen, acting director of the Faculty Development Center and professor of political science, won the California State University, Fullerton’s annual Faculty Leadership in Collegial Governance Award. Sutphen has been on the school’s faculty for 37 years.
Huell Howser, producer and host of “California’s Gold,” was honored as Distinguished Communicator of the Year by California State University, Fullerton’s Department of Communications. Three of the department’s alumni also were honored and had their names added to the department’s Wall of Fame, which recognizes outstanding individuals in the field of communications: Ken Daley, vice president, National Baseball Writers Association and a sportswriter for the Dallas Morning News; Ken Hagihara, president of Integrity Public Relations; and Jerrianne Hayslett, retired director of public information for Los Angeles Superior Court.
