Folino to Receive Lifetime Achievement Honor

The Mind Institute in Costa Mesa will honor Paul Folino, chief executive

of Costa Mesa-based Emulex Corp., at its annual awards dinner.

Folino is set to receive the Gordon L. Shaw Lifetime Achievement Award, named after the institute’s cofounder, who died last year. Folino previously was on the nonprofit’s board and is one the institute’s million dollar donors. He is being honored for his achievements in business, his leadership and his contributions to the community.

Emil Brolick, president and chief concepts officer of Irvine-based Taco Bell Corp., and wife Maureen are honorary chairs of the institute’s awards dinner, set for November.

University of California, Irvine professors Barbara Finlayson-Pitts and Kenneth L. Pomeranz were named 2006 fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Finlayson-Pitts, a chemistry professor, studies chemical reactions in the lower atmosphere to better understand air pollution in urban and remote areas. Pomeranz, Chancellor’s professor of history, researches East Asian history and the economy, with an interest in the state, society and economy of late Imperial and 20th century China.

Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy LLP was named global Corporate Immigration Law Firm of the Year 2006 in the Who’s Who Legal awards. Several lawyers from the firm, including David Hirson of the Irvine office, received nominations for The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers 2006 listing.

The Orange County chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers honored Lisa Jones, assistant dean of student affairs for California State University, Fullerton’s College of Engineering and Computer Science, with its Distinguished Educator award.

Costa-Mesa-based law firm Rutan & Tucker LLP and Cindy and Allan Stokke of Santa Ana-based Stokke & Riddet APC were honored by the Anti-Defamation League Orange County/Long Beach. Rutan & Tucker received the Community Leadership award and the Stokkes received the Marcus M. Kaufman Jurisprudence award. Both were honored for their commitment and contributions to civic activities.

Enrique Perez, director of international business at Rancho Santiago Community College District, received an Estrella Award at the OC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 13th annual Estrella Awards and Installation Banquet. The award is presented to a Hispanic business owner for his or her work in international business.

Irvine-based advertising shop RiechesBaird Inc. was named among the nation’s top business to business companies in a list by BtoB Magazine. The annual list rates agencies on a variety of factors, including focus, growth, key clients and award-winning work.

munity College President Ding-Jo Currie was named the Mildred Bulpitt Woman of the Year 2006. The honor is given to a woman for her service to women in a two-year college setting and who deserves national recognition as a role model.

The National Water Research Institute of Fountain Valley honored the OC Water District and OC Sanitation District as joint recipients of its Award of Excellence for leadership on the Groundwater Replenishment System.

Orange County Wild honored the following individuals and group at the 2006 Earth Day Celebration: Don Thomas received the Lifetime Achievement in Environmental Education award, Sue Stoffel received the Staff Environmental Educator of the Year award, Dick Newell received the Volunteer Environmental Educator of the Year award, Robert and Nancy Lawson received the Land Stewards of the Year award and the Santa Ana Mountains Natural History Association received Environmental Education Group of the Year award.

Huntington Beach-based Coastline Printing was certified as an Allegra Print & Imaging location for achieving an outstanding level of customer service and featuring advanced printing capabilities. The business is owned by Corbett Baer and his wife Susan.

Irvine-based Comade Inc. was named one of the top 100 diversity-owned businesses in the U.S. by Web site DiversityBusiness.com.

Sir Speedy South OC in Irvine was recognized for the ninth consecutive year as a winner of the Best of the Best awards. International Gallery of Superb Printing presented the award, which honors printing companies that have demonstrated quality and innovative work.
