Target stores and attorney Marjorie Mize Le Gaye both received the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s employer of the year awards. The Orange County Chapter of NMSS recognized the recipients for providing accessible work environments for employees with multiple sclerosis.

Mobil Chemical Films Division, Yorba Linda, presented six companies with the 1999 Golden Mummy and Pyramid Awards. The honorees included: Ganong Bros. Ltd., Kellogg’s, Incline Technologies, Rexall Sundown, S.C. Johnson & Son Inc., and Laguna Beverage Company. The awards recognize creativity, appearance and performance of flexible packaging that uses at least one Mobil film.

Ashley Davis of Surfside Villas was one of 12 winners of the AHMA Drug-Free Kid poster calendar contest sponsored by the Affordable Housing Management Association. The winners were presented with cash awards and gifts from AHMA. The contest is designed to encourage young residents of affordable housing to stay away from drugs.

UC Irvine’s Women’s Opportunities Center received the education and community career center award for excellence from the California Career Development Association in recognition of the center’s innovation, outreach and array of services.

The Orange County Fair received two first-place awards from the International Association of Fairs & Expositions for its quarterly newsletter, Fair Times, and its press kit promoting the 1999 theme, Join the Rush.

The Orange County Red Cross honored Susan E. Trumbore, associate professor of earth system science at UC Irvine, with the Clara Barton spectrum award for outstanding women in Orange County. She was recognized for her achievements in earth science research. The award is given annually to women in nine service categories who make outstanding humanitarian contributions to improve the quality of life in Orange County.

Peter F. Drucker, professor of social science and management at the Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University, received the Austrian Cross of Honor for science and art, first class. Drucker, for whom the school is named, is best known for his views about the role of corporate organizations in society.”

The California State Bar Foundation awarded Mollie Burks, a second-year student at Western State University College of Law, a $5,000 scholarship for her work in promoting the rights of abused children. The scholarship award is given annually to law students who are interested in practicing public law.

The National Association of Women Business Owners, Orange County Chapter, honored Melissa Curzon as one of the “Remarkable Women of Orange County Organizations” for her work on behalf of Financial Women International. In addition, FWI member Bonnie Schumacher was a NAWBO honoree for her work with Zonta International.

The International Association of Business Communicators, Orange County Chapter, presented Ken Hagihara, Lisa Quinn and Monica Garcia with 1999 Helios awards of merit for helping needy children. They were recognized for their role in a canned food drive to benefit the Orange County Rescue Mission. The Cal State Fullerton graduates collected more than three tons of food as part of the school’s public relations management course.

Ryan Ross, 11, a sixth-grader from Fountain Valley, was the grand-prize winner of a Thanksgiving theme essay-writing contest sponsored by Mimi’s Caf & #233;. Ross received a $1,000 education bond and had his Thanksgiving wish granted,to feed residents of a local homeless shelter during the Christmas season. In addition, 7-year old Jonathan Dean of Pomona took top honors in the first- and second -grade category and received a $250 savings bond. Taylor Wahl, a third-grader from Laguna Niguel, was also awarded a $250 savings bond.

Sir Speedy, a printing center in Laguna Hills, was honored at the International Gallery of Superb Printing awards. The company received three gold awards and a silver award. The event is sponsored by the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen Inc. and recognizes printing excellence and craftsmanship in production.

The Irvine Ranch Water District received the public education award for its web site from the Santa Ana River Basin section of the California Water Environmental Association. In addition, IRWD water quality employee Arseny Kalinsky was honored with the research achievement award for the discovery of a cost-effective filtering system.

SAFECO Insurance, Costa Mesa, presented an award and a $5,000 grant to Kathy McCarrell, executive director of the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center. The award recognizes outstanding non-profit sector leaders.

The Building Industry Association of Southern California honored Diane Jensen, a builder sales representative for the Heritage Escrow Co. Jensen received the A. Gary Anderson Memorial Award for her contributions to the building industry and the Case Bradford Memorial Award for outstanding service to the Home Builders Council.

Rochester Big & Tall, Costa Mesa, selected Thomas O. Gephart, founder of Ventana Global Management, as the recipient of its “Big Guys are Good Guys” award program for his ongoing contributions to the OC community.

The 500 Orange Tower in Orange and the Katella Corporate Center in Los Alamitos were recognized with the office building of the year award by the Building Owners & Managers Association Orange County. 500 Orange Tower was recognized in the 250,000- to 500,000-square-foot category and the Katella Center was honored in the under- 100,000-square-foot category. Earlier, Brenna Walraven, of USAA Realty Co., was elected principal of the Building Owners and Managers Association, Orange County and Dave Katzenmeyer of Pacwest Security Services was named associate of BOMA.

The American Society of Landscape Architects presented Disneyland with a Medallion plaque to acknowledge the park as one of the country’s most influential landscapes that has enriched California communities.
