J.A. Jones International, a unit of Aliso Viejo-based Fluor Corp., won the National Design-Build Award for best project involving a public sector building costing more than $15 million. The Design-Build Institute of America gave the award. The Fluor unit won for its U.S. Embassy complex in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, which opened in March.

Irvine accounting firm Haskell & White LLP won a Distinguished Achievement Award at the 23rd annual Business in the Arts Awards. The Orange County Business Committee for the Arts hosted the event to recognize the contributions of local businesses to the OC arts community. Laguna Playhouse and South Coast Repertory nominated Haskell.

Five community association managers at Merit Property Management Inc. of Aliso Viejo earned Vision Awards from the California Association of Community Managers: Suzanne Bolton, Mary Rose Gallucci, Britta Graham and Melodie LaMont.

Orange County Human Relations in Santa Ana presented its Building Bridges Awards to six schools and three educators. The schools recognized were: Buena Park Jr. High School; Cypress High School; Kraemer Middle School, Placentia; Los Amigos High School, Garden Grove; and Western High School, Anaheim. Newport Harbor High School received the People’s Choice Award. Karen Clark of Western High School, Karla Jones of Kraemer Middle School and Janet Marquez of Fountain Valley High School received Certificates of Appreciation.

George Carpenter, chief executive of Aliso Viejo-based WorkWell Systems Inc., won the Platinum Abby from the Adaptive Business Leaders Organization, an Orange-based association of executives from healthcare and technology companies. Loren Shook, chief executive of Silverado Senior Living of San Juan Capistrano, took home the Silver Abby Award.

Four local companies and groups received the Award for Excellence in Disaster Preparedness from the Orange County Red Cross: Costa Mesa-based MGE UPS Systems Inc., Anaheim-based Pacific Sunwear of California Inc., Coast Community College District in Costa Mesa and Rancho Canada Elementary School in Lake Forest.

Wayne Foss, president of Fullerton-based real estate consulting firm Wayne Foss Appraisals Inc., was awarded the Counselor of Real Estate designation by the Counselors of Real Estate.

Joan Huckabone Mayer, a partner with Newport Beach-based Newmeyer & Dillion LLP, graduated from the Orange County District Attorney office’s Trial Attorney Partnership program.
