John B. Parker, chairman of Parker Partners (previously Parker Properties) was presented a lifetime achievement award from the UCI Graduate School of Management’s program in real estate management.

Evlyn Hamil Shopp of Laguna Woods received the community leader of the year award from Saddleback Memorial Foundation for her volunteer activities with Saddleback Memorial Hospital since 1980. In addition, William and Louise Meiklejohn received philanthropists of the year awards from the foundation for their donation of funds to build the Meiklejohn Critical Care Pavilion at the hospital. Other awards went to Dr. David Law, physician of the year, and Patricia Karnya, employee of the year.

The Orange Chamber of Commerce named Diana Gentry of meeting planning and special event company S & D; Productions ambassador of the year. Gentry was also named Kiwanian of the year by the Kiwanis Club of Orange.

The California Lottery named 7th Heaven Market in Laguna Niguel retailer of the month for December.

Costa Mesa-based Hunter Barth Advertising received the Ruth Ann Montgomery award for outstanding service from the National Assistance League. The award was presented in recognition of pro bono efforts on Operation School Bell, which helps clothe children of impoverished families.

Richard T. Hopcraft, vice president of national sales for Santa Ana-based First American Title Insurance Co., received the first John Lusk Memorial award from the Construction Industries Alliance. The award recognizes an individual who exemplifies leadership, philanthropy and recruitment, qualities embraced by the late homebuilder.

Laura Asbill, co-owner of Gold Star Financial in Yorba Linda, won awards for 1998/99 top securities producer of the year and the multi-million dollar club from Brecek & Young Advisors, a financial services firm.

The Automobile Club of Southern California granted Four Diamond awards to the following Orange County restaurants: The Club Grill & Bar, Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel; The Dining Room, Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel; The Cellar, Fullerton; Chanteclair, Irvine; Five Crowns, The Pavilion (Four Seasons Hotel) and The Ritz in Newport Beach; and Antonello Ristorante, Santa Ana.

UCI students Jean Lin and Brian McCurtis received scholarship grants from Irvine management search firm Bridgegate LLC.

Cushman & Wakefield, an international real estate services firm, received the Dorsey award for outstanding commitment to client service. An editorial board of Site Selection magazine selects the recipients of the awards based on survey results.

Orange County’s United Way presented six local Latinos and one corporation with 1999 Hispanic Influentials Awards for outstanding achievements and contributions to the community. The honorees were Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, Rod Carew, Rose Espinoza, Manuel Gomez, Peter Villegas, Hector Godinez, and Edison International.

The Society for Information Display and Information Display magazine awarded Toshiba Corp. with the 1999 display of the year gold award, which recognizes outstanding products in the display industry.

The Orange County Fire Services Association named Fire Captain David Barlag Orange County’s firefighter of the year. In addition, safety education specialist Ellen Janice Covey was honored for providing outstanding service in educating the public on fire safety.

The National Theatre Conference awarded South Coast Repertory the outstanding achievement award for excellence in American theatre. In addition, Sir Peter Hall received the Conference’s person of the year award and Nilo Cruz was honored with the Barrie and Bernice Stavis award for emerging playwright of the year.
