Memory products maker Kingston Technology Co. last week reported record sales of $3.4 billion for 2006, a 13% jump from the previous year.
The company’s budding business selling flash memory for consumer devices helped spur the gain, according to Kingston. The company’s main business is memory boards for computers.
“Kingston’s focus on flash over the last few years has met with great success,” cofounder David Sun said.
The Fountain Valley-based company, founded in 1987, crossed the $1 billion mark in 1995, $2 billion in 2004 and $3 billion in 2005.
“Reaching $3.4 billion as we turn 20 is remarkable,” cofounder John Tu said.
Kingston is among several companies in Orange County that stand to benefit from the launch of Microsoft Corp.’s new Vista operating system.
Computer makers are suggesting doubling the 1 gigabyte of memory built in, which fuels the market for memory boards and flash cards, among other products.
The company, with about 850 local workers and 3,300 worldwide employees, has been adding to its payroll, chiefly in sales and marketing.
