Juxt’s Acquisition Pays Off With Work from Parent

Newport Beach-based Juxt Interactive Inc. is doubling its staff and office space after some account wins.

The ad shop declined to name the new clients but expects most of the campaigns to launch in the third quarter.

?e?l be launching all this stuff at the same time,?President Jeff Henning said.

The interactive ad agency was acquired by Michigan-based event marketing company George P. Johnson Co. in October.

?e have in front of us more work than this company has ever done in its history, largely in part to our new parent company,?Henning said.

The ad shop had about 25 workers when it was acquired. It since has hired 23 more with four positions left to fill.

To accommodate the larger staff, the shop has taken over the rest of its building in Newport, adding 5,000 square feet for a total of 10,000 square feet.

?e looked at the possibility of moving but decided to just take advantage of the unused space next to us,?Henning said.

Juxt also is opening a San Francisco office to help service a large account win with George P. Johnson? San Carlos office.

?t was a huge win for all of us,?Henning said.

The San Francisco office is expected to open June 1 and initially be staffed by about 10 people from Newport who will be handing the joint account with George P. Johnson.

Sprite Web site: done by Juxt

?e?e sending 10 to work specifically on the very large joint project (and) eventually to go after some business we couldn? touch before,?Henning said.

The shop has projects for Coca-Cola Co.? Sprite and Powerade brands.

?e are doing all the digital for one of the largest campaigns Sprite has ever done,?Henning said. ?e have a lot to do, but we?e trying not to get overwhelmed.?

The company also picked up some digital work for AMR Corp.? American Airlines through the company? lead advertising agency.

Auto Publisher Bankruptcy

Anaheim-based Source Interlink Media LLC? parent company has filed for Chapter 11 protection after trying to deal with declining advertising sales and debt from an acquisition.

The publishing company, controlled by billionaire Ron Burkle? Los Angeles-based Yucaipa Cos., has a listed debt of $1.9 billion.

Source Interlink? current plan is to go private with a deal that will relieve it of $1.9 billion in debt and provide an additional $100 million to fund its operations.

The magazine publisher plans to continue to operate as usual, with no layoffs planned at any of the magazines at this time.

Source Interlink looks to emerge from bankruptcy within a month or so without management changes.

The publisher shut down several magazines in February including OC? Turbo Magazine and Sports Compact Car.
