Ingram Micro and Western Digital post improved bottom lines, in Earnings

Ingram Micro Inc., Santa Ana, reported earnings of $38.9 million on revenue of $7.56 billion for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with earnings of $15.8 million revenue of $6.71 billion for the third quarter last year. For the nine-month period, earnings were $168.3 million on revenue of $22.65 billion, compared with earnings of $108.4 million on revenue of $20.24 billion for the 1999 period.

Western Digital Corp., Irvine, reported a net loss of $33.5 million (includes an extraordinary gain of $11.2 million relating to the redemption of debentures for common stock) on revenue of $440.2 million for its fiscal first quarter ended Sept. 29, compared with a net loss of $106.3 million (including a net one-time gain of $20.6 million) on revenue of $407.0 million in its previous first quarter.

Beckman Coulter Inc., Fullerton, reported earnings of $29.1 million on revenue of $457.8 million in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with earnings of $24.4 million on revenue of $440.1 million in the prior third quarter. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, Beckman reported earnings of $82.5 million on revenue of $1.4 billion, compared with earnings of $67.3 million on revenue of $1.3 billion in the prior-year period.

Apria Healthcare Group Inc., Costa Mesa, reported earnings of $14.8 million on revenue of $252.6 million in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with earnings of $18.9 million on revenue of $237.4 million in the prior third quarter. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, Apria reported earnings of $41.7 million on revenue of $755.9 million, compared to earnings of $52.3 million on revenue of $697.7 million in the prior-year period.

Irvine-based Westcorp reported earnings of $18.2 million on revenue of $205.8 million for the calendar third quarter, compared with earnings of $15.1 million on revenue of $136.0 million for the third quarter last year. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, the company reported earnings of $55.8 million on revenue of $534.3 million, compared with earnings of $37.2 million on revenue of $378.5 million for the 1999 period.

Buy.com Inc., Aliso Viejo, reported a net loss of $30.5 million on revenue of $190.2 million for the calendar third quarter, compared with a net loss of $33.2 million on revenue of $159.0 million in the third quarter last year. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, the company posted a net loss of $97.0 million on revenue of $591.0 million, compared with a net loss of $80.5 million on revenue of $396.2 million in the prior-year period.

Epicor Software Corp., Irvine, reported a net loss of $12.3 million on revenue of $51.9 million for the calendar third quarter, compared with a net loss of $9.7 million on revenue of $63.2 million for the same period last year.

For the nine months ended Sept. 30, the company posted a net loss of $35.4 million on revenue of $166.0 million, compared with a net loss of $7.2 million on revenue of $195.5 million for the 1999 period.

New Century Financial Corp., Irvine, reported earnings of $4.7 million on revenue of $57.2 million for the third quarter, compared with earnings of $11.9 million on revenue of $63.0 million for the third quarter of 1999. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, the company reported earnings of $3.4 million on revenue of $153.5 million, compared with earnings of $32.6 million on revenue of $173.2 million for the same period last year.

Newport Beach-based Impac Mortgage Holdings Inc. reported earnings of $3.3 million on revenue of $39.0 million for the third quarter, compared with earnings of $6.2 million on revenue of $31.1 million for the same period last year. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, the company reported a net loss of $57.9 million on revenue of $106.6 million, compared with earnings of $18.4 million on revenue of $95.6 million for the same period last year.

Foothill Ranch-based Onyx Acceptance Corp. reported earnings of $1.7 million on revenue of $26.2 million for the calendar third quarter, compared with earnings of $2.6 million on revenue of $25.1 million for the same period last year. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, the company reported earnings of $4.9 million on revenue of $77.0 million, compared with earnings of $7.1 million on revenue of $70.0 million for the same period last year.

Eldorado Bancshares Inc., Laguna Hills, reported earnings of $2.5 million on revenue of $19.2 million for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with earnings of $2.4 million on revenue of $19.0 million for the same period last year. For the nine-month period, the company reported earnings of $6.4 million on revenue of $55.4 million, compared to earnings of $4.0 million on revenue of $52.0 million for the same period last year.

Irvine-based Autobytel.com reported a net loss of $7.9 million on revenue of $17.5 million for the calendar third quarter, compared with a net loss of $6.3 million on revenue of $10.6 million for the same period last year. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, the company reported a net loss of $25.8 million on revenue of $50.0 million, compared to a net loss of $18.4 million on revenue of $27.9 million for the same period last year.

Core Inc., Irvine, posted a net loss of $1.8 million on revenue of $14.6 million for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with earnings of $1 million on revenue of $16.3 million in the prior third quarter. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, Core posted a net loss of $1.5 million on revenue of $47.9 million, compared with earnings of $3.1 million on revenue of $47.7 million in the prior-year period.

Medstone International Inc., Aliso Viejo, reported earnings of $572,738 on revenue of $5.4 million in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with net income of $1.2 million on revenue of $6.4 million in the prior third quarter. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, Medstone reported earnings of $2 million on revenue of $17.5 million, compared with earnings of $2.3 million on revenue of $17.8 million in the prior-year period.

Nexell Therapeutics Inc., Irvine, posted a net loss of $7.1 million on revenue of $4.5 million in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with a net loss of $13 million on revenue of $2.2 million in the prior third quarter. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, Nexell posted a net loss of $26.2 million on revenue of $13.9 million, compared with a net loss of $30.2 million on revenue of $9.3 million in the 1999 period.

OptimumCare Corp., Laguna Niguel, reported earnings of $164,913 on revenue of $2 million in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with earnings of $179,186 on revenue of $2.7 million in the prior third quarter. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, OptimumCare reported earnings of $342,708 on revenue of $6 million, compared to earnings of $397,907 on revenue of $7.9 million in the prior nine-month period.

Micro Therapeutics Inc., Irvine, posted a net loss of $3.1 million on revenue of $1.4 million for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with a net loss of $2.7 million on revenue of $917,892 in the prior third quarter. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, Micro Therapeutics posted a net loss of $8.4 million on revenue of $3.8 million, compared to a net loss of $10.8 million on revenue of $2.8 million in the 1999 period.

ChromaVision Medical Systems Inc., San Juan Capistrano, posted a net loss of $4 million on revenue of $211,581 in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with a net loss of $3.2 million on revenue of $32,669 in the prior third quarter. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, ChromaVision posted a net loss of $10.9 million on revenue of $753,299, compared with a net loss of $8.4 million on revenue of $96,816 in the prior-year period.
