Home Sales Fall, Prices Hit Record

Orange County home prices hit a record in April, though the number of sales fell sharply, according to a report Thursday.

The median price for a detached Orange County home was $729,370 in April, up 1.7% from March and 7% higher than a year earlier, the California Association of Realtors.

The pace of OC home sales continued to show the steep declines of the past few months.

Sales of detached homes in the county were off 33% from a year earlier. Sales were down 11% between March and April.

The association excludes condominiums from its figures.

Including condos, the median price of a home sold in OC was $628,000 in April, up 9% from a year earlier, according to La Jolla-based market tracker DataQuick, a unit of Canada’s MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates.

The statewide April median price of a detached California home was $562,380, up less than 1% from March, but an increase of 10% from a year ago, the California Association of Realtors reported.

Statewide sales were down 21% in April from a year earlier.

The median number of days it took to sell a single-family home in California was 42 days in April, compared with 28 days for the same period a year ago.

Newport Beach had OC’s highest median home price in April, at $1.4 million, the fourth-priciest city in the state. Laguna Beach, which held the state title in March, did not crack the Top 10 this month.
