Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver Foundation of Quiksilver Inc. donated 200 boxes of merchandise to the Orangewood Children’s Foundation. The items included day planners, hats, shirts, sunglasses and pajamas. The Foundation also joined with nonprofit SurfAid International to launch a Community Health Training Centre at Katiet Village in the Mentawai Islands. The center will educate the people of Indonesia to fight disease, infection and plagues.


The Weingart Foundation gave $100,570 to Vocational Visions in Mission Viejo, promising an additional $100,000 matching pledge if that amount can be raised by October. The donation will upgrade the nonprofit’s communication systems. Vocational Visions provides career and social services to developmentally disabled men and women in OC. It serves more than 400 clients daily.

The Children and Families Commission of OC gave $50,000 to Creer: Communidad y Familia. Funds will be used to develop cultural, educational and social potential of Latino children. The commission oversees allocation of funds from tobacco sales taxes. Creer is a volunteer community organization founded in 2005 as an initiative of Latino Educational Attainment.

Fountain Valley-based Elwyn California raised $45,803 at its 10th Annual Bowlathon. The event was sponsored by Time Warner Cable, Pacifica Foods, The Monkey Hook and Dan Reardon. Fountain Valley Police and Firefighters Associations made donations as well.

The Wells Fargo Foundation gave $20,000 to the Oak View Renewal Partnership. Oak View is an economic development project for a poor community in Huntington Beach. The project hopes to revitalize the neighborhood by creating a farmers market.

The Eye Care Center at the Southern California College of Optometry received a $10,000 grant from the Wilson W. Phelps Foundation. The funds will develop Spanish-language tools for patients at the Fullerton-based center. Doctors and interns will create vision care brochures in Spanish and translate medical forms.

Laura’s House in Ladera Ranch received a $7,000 grant from the AT & T; Foundation. The funds will be used to develop a database to track client data and program results. Laura’s House provides residential shelter services to women and children. Foothill Ranch-based Oakley Inc. donated gift bags of clothing, shoes, socks, hats and glasses to Laura’s House.

Santa Ana-based Opera Pacific took its Fun With Opera performances to seven elementary schools in the greater Palm Springs area. An anonymous donor paid $6,800 to cover transportation and lodging costs for opera singers.

The Cabrillo Playhouse in San Clemente received $1,080 from the philanthropic group Beach Angels. Thirty-six local women of the Beach Angels donate $1,000 each month to a local charity. The Playhouse is a nonprofit organization.

Irvine-based Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America Inc. donated $1,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of OC through its Spirit of Giving Campaign. The funds will be used to support the mission of matching adult mentors with children in need.

The Heart Truth Road Show gave free heart health screenings to women during its stop at the Westminster Mall. The Road Show is a program of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Celebrity red dresses are the national symbol for women and heart disease. Diet Coke sponsors the Red Dress Collection, which includes dresses worn my Vanessa Williams, Jenna Fischer and Heidi Klum.

Third graders from Walnut Elementary in La Habra were treated to an oral hygiene lesson and free dental screenings from the Gary Center Dental Clinic. The clinic partnered with National Children’s Oral Health Foundation and Inspector Hector, a cleaning product.

Beach Dental Group & Orthodontics, San Clemente Dental Group & Orthodontics and Capistrano Dental Group provided a day of free dentistry to local kids. Doctors and staff performed dental exams, digital X-rays, cleanings, fillings, sealants and extractions.

Henry’s Farmers Market hosted a Grab and Give Food Drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Henry’s has stores in Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo and Yorba Linda.
