JF Shea Therapeutic Riding Center’s “Sheananigans: A Night of Horseplay and Magic” gala at the Montage Laguna Beach raised $250,000 to benefit Shea Center’s therapeutic horse-related programs for people with disabilities.

Laguna College of Art & Design raised $100,000 for student programs and scholarships at its annual Collector’s Choice Fine Art Event and Auction.

Irvine-based ChromaDex Inc. received a $100,000 small business innovation research grant from the National Science Foundation to develop several plant-based antioxidants for commercial use in drugs, food, natural chemicals and cosmetic products.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. donated $65,000 to two local organizations: OC Girls Inc. in Costa Mesa received $40,000 and Children’s Bureau of Los Angeles in Anaheim received $25,000.

Costa Mesa-based Experian Information Solutions Inc. donated $50,000 to Santa Ana-based Mind Research Institute, a neuroscience and education nonprofit that promotes education and scientific research.

Surf Industry Manufacturers Associa-tion Environmental Fund raised $50,000

at the annual Waterman’s Weekend underwriting party. About a hundred people in the surf industry attended the party held at Cyprus Shore Community Park. The money raised will help underwrite the costs for

the upcoming Waterman’s Weekend, which will benefit 18 ocean-related environmental organizations.

The OC chapter of Financial Executives International presented $16,000 in academic awards to eight area scholars at its May dinner meeting. Money for the academic awards was raised through the chapter’s annual golf tournament titled Scramble for Scholars and through private member donations.

IndyCar Series team Conquest Racing and ODW Logistics Inc. donated $10,000 to the OC affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Conquest will also raise breast cancer awareness by placing a Susan G. Komen for the Cure decal on the front wing of its No. 34 Conquest Car.

Jack in the Box Foundation donated $8,750 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of OC’s high school-based mentoring programs. The programs match high school volunteers with younger children in Fullerton, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano and Santa Ana elementary schools.
