Rebuffed Gateway Inc. suitor Lap Shun “John” Hui on Tuesday said he was reviewing his options after the Irvine computer maker rejected his offer to buy the company’s retail business.
Hui said he is disappointed Gateway’s board “made a decision to reject the offer without engaging in any discussions with me.”
Gateway said last week its board “after careful consideration and in consultation with its financial and legal advisers” decided the offer from Hui “is not in the best interest of shareholders.”
Late last month, Hui made public his $450 million bid for Gateway’s retail business and also offered to buy the entire company.
Hui is the second largest individual shareholder of Gateway holding about 5% of the company. He sold low-cost PC maker eMachines of Irvine to Gateway for $290 million a few years back.
