Game Maker Foundation 9 Acquires Seattle-Area Company

Newport Beach-based video game developer Foundation 9 Entertainment Inc. is acquiring Amaze Entertainment, a Seattle-area maker of games based on movies and other subjects.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Foundation 9 is funding the deal with its private equity owner, Francisco Partners Management LLC of Menlo Park.

The acquisition brings Foundation 9 to 725 employees across 11 game design studios.

Kirkland, Wash.-based Amaze has 285 workers. The company has made games for “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Chronicles of Narnia” and “Pirates of the Caribbean II: Dead Man’s Chest.”

Foundation 9 is the result of another deal in early 2005. That’s when Newport Beach-based video game developer Collective Inc. combined with Backbone Entertainment of Emeryville to create Foundation 9.
