Germany’s BASF AG has tapped a Fluor Corp. joint venture to build a $53 million polymer plant in Altamira, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
ICA Fluor Daniel, a joint venture of Aliso Viejo-based Fluor and Mexico City’s Empresas ICA Sociedad Controladora SA de CV, won the BASF contract. The 21-month project includes detail engineering, procurement services, construction and other services.
The proposed plant, on the Gulf of Mexico, is set to produce BASF’s Styrolux polymer. The material can be injection molded into food-packaging and other products.
ICA Fluor Daniel is jointly owned by ICA and Fluor Daniel, a Fluor unit.
The venture is building a 600-megawatt power plant along the California border in Mexicali for San Diego-based Sempra Energy.
