Santa Ana-based title insurer and business data provider First American Corp. has acquired Florida’s Proxix Solutions Inc., a maker of software that analyzes location data for insurers, tax agencies, cable companies and others.
Terms weren’t disclosed.
The deal is part of First American’s bid to bolster its business of providing data to companies. It comes as First American’s mainstay title insurance business is slumping amid the housing downturn.
Proxix is set to be part of a new unit, First American Spatial Solutions, based in Austin, Texas.
The company’s software is used to study geographic locations for insurers, tax agencies or franchisees looking to expand.
Proxix’s president, Paul Wray, cofounded Florida’s Qualitative Marketing Software Inc., which was bought by in 1999 by Sagent Technology Inc., now part of Pitney Bowes Inc.
