Fire Rattles Nerves; No Businesses, Homes Burnt

The 15,000-acre fire east of Irvine and into Foothill Ranch closed the Foothill (241) Toll Road, threatened homes and some businesses but hadn’t burned any buildings or homes as of Monday afternoon.

No businesses in the area of the fire have been ordered to evacuate, according to the Orange County Fire Authority. Any decisions to close offices are being made by the businesses themselves, according to officials.

At least one, medical device maker Advanced Sterilization Products, a Johnson & Johnson unit in Irvine, sent workers home for the day.

Some companies and John Wayne Airport saw power outages related to the fires.

The biggest issue likely facing businesses are the road closures in the area, including parts of the toll roads, Santiago Canyon Road and Portola Parkway.

Representatives from The Irvine Company said they hadn’t been able to determine the fire’s impact on the company’s land and developments in the area, including nearby housing projects.

The fire is 30% contained, according to officials.
