EXECUTIVE BRIEFCASE – LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA
Legoland California
Theme park in Carlsbad. Adult admission $41.95, children 3 through 12, $34.95
It’s not Disneyland,or Knott’s Berry Farm, for that matter, but Legoland California is worth a day trip down to Carlsbad if you’re looking for something to do with the kids this summer. The 4-year-old theme park has undergone a $2 million upgrade with new rides geared toward older kids. The new Bionicle Blaster is a sort of industrial version of Disneyland’s Mad Tea Party ride. If you haven’t been before, Legoland is more subdued than other parks. The centerpiece is a Lego replica of major American cities where looking but not touching can be tough for young kids. There’s plenty of hands-on stuff in other areas. Many rides, such as the Fairy Tale Brook boat ride and the Safari Trek vehicle ride through an African jungle, are geared toward youngsters. The Water Works fountains also are a kick. The drawback: Legoland is relatively pricey for what the park offers. Overall, though, Legoland is a fun change of pace from the Southland’s more hurried theme parks. And it isn’t that crowded, bad news for Denmark’s Lego Co. but a plus for visitors.
