CellBook, Mission Viejo, has launched the next generation in tour guides: a handheld electronic device that enables tourists to quickly locate restaurants, shopping, theaters, ATMs and maps at the touch of a button.
Billed as a personal guide to Orange County, the electronic gadgets are available from a handful of area hotel concierge desks-including those at the Irvine Marriott, the Hyatt Newporter, the Doubletree Hotels in Costa Mesa and Orange, and two Stovall’s Best Westerns in Anaheim-and the Anaheim Visitors Center at Katella Ave. and Harbor Boulevard. Senior VP of Market Development Bob Holmes said the company hopes to add other locations throughout the county for the product, which was three years in the making.
The CellBook can be borrowed by any hotel guest who has a credit card number on file. There is no charge for use of the device as long as it is returned to the hotel. Users get the added benefit of being able to print discount coupons for attractions and retail centers like Wild Bill’s, Medieval Times, The Block and MainPlace directly from the mini guidebook.
To ensure current content, CellBooks are reprogrammed each time they are returned to the hotel.
