Aliso Viejo’s Firstrax Inc., a maker of pet supplies, has been bought by Cincinnati-based United Pet Group Inc. for undisclosed terms.
Firstrax makes portable dog houses, animal carriers and containers, pet beds and toys. The company, known for its NozTonoz and Petnation brands, counts yearly sales of $20 million.
United Pet Group, part of St. Louis-based United Industries Corp., makes products for dogs, cats, fish, birds and small animals. United Industries acquired the pet supply unit in July, marking the company’s entry into the pet products market.
The Firstrax buy is part of the company’s strategy to buy businesses that expand their range of pet supply products, according to United. Firstrax’s management team is set to join United.
United Industries makes bug sprays and garden products under the Spectracide, Hot Shot, Cutter, Real Kill, No-Pest, Schultz, Sta-Green, Vigoro and Bandini fertilizer brands.
Consumer products maker Rayovac Corp. earlier this month said it plans to buy United Industries for about $1.2 billion.
