Court Overin, director of the Action Sports Retailer trade show, has died

Court Overin, director of Laguna Beach’s Action Sports Retailer Trade Show and vice president of VNU Expositions Sports Group, died Nov. 11 at San Clemente Hospital and Medical Center.

Overin, a well-known name in Orange County’s surfwear industry, suffered respiratory failure due to pulmonary fibrosis, a terminal lung disease. He was 43.

After serving as publisher for San Juan Capistrano’s Surfer magazine, Overin joined ASR as national sales manager in 1995. He is credited with growing the Long Beach and San Diego trade shows, which draw thousands of attendees and exhibitors each year.

A passionate surfer, Overin grew up in Los Angeles County, surfing at Malibu and other north L.A. beaches. He eventually moved to San Clemente, where he resided for more than a decade.

Overin is survived by his wife, Michelle, and three children.
