COMMENT: Secession Succession

COMMENT: Secession Succession

by Rick Reiff

KEEP AN EYE ON THE SECESSION BATTLE IN THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY.

While the conventional wisdom is that the attempt to break away from Los Angeles faces an uphill battle, it’s still a long way to Election Day. Discontent with government-as-is runs deep, and one should never underestimate the power of a motivated grassroots movement (see El Toro).

If the Valley secessionists do succeed, there could be a domino effect. How farfetched is it to envision a movement to divide Orange County into north and south? Or to cut California in half?
