Newport Beach-based Collectors Universe said its Lyn Knight Currency Auctions sold a rare note for what it believes is a record price for the sale of a collectible on the Internet. In a multi-venue auction, the $1,000 1882 gold certificate sold for $264,000 and a $500 1880 legal tender note sold for $231,000 to an Internet bidder.
