Ceradyne Inc., a maker of ceramic armor for troops and vehicles, said Thursday it bought a Quebec plant and a new product line for $14.1 million as part of its diversification strategy.
The company bought an 86,000-square-foot facility in Chicoutimi, Quebec. In a separate deal, Ceradyne acquired a boron carbide and aluminum cladding product line and equipment from AAR Manufacturing Inc., a unit of AAR Corp. of Illinois.
Ceradyne plans to make material to contain nuclear waste under an agreement with Canada’s Alcan Inc.
