CenturyTel to Acquire Embarq in $5.8 billion Deal

Rural telephone company CenturyTel Inc. plans to buy its larger peer Embarq Corp. for $5.8 billion in stock in an effort to cut costs and stay competitive amid a decline in traditional phone lines.
