Irvine chipmaker Broadcom Corp. said Thursday it added two directors to its board.
Eddy Hartenstein, former chief executive and chairman of DirecTV Inc., and William Morrow, chief executive of Pacific Gas & Electric Co., are joining the chipmaker’s board.
Hartenstein, 57, served at DirecTV from 1990 until 2004. Before that he held executive posts at at former DirecTV parent Hughes Communications Inc. and Equatorial Communications Services Co. He’s a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
Morrow, 48, joined PG & E; in 2006 as chief operating officer and became CEO in 2007.
Before that, he held executive positions at cell phone maker Vodafone Ltd. and for other wireless carriers. He spent 14 years at Pacific Bell (now AT & T; Inc.) early in his career.
Broadcom’s board now has eight members, of which six are outsiders, including George Farinsky, Nancy Handel, John Major, Robert Switz, Hartenstein and Morrow.
Chief Executive Scott McGregor and former CEO Alan “Lanny” Ross are the two insiders.
Chairman Major took the top board spot in March after cofounder and technology adviser Henry Samueli stepped down as chairman in response to the Securities and Exchange Commission suing him and other executives in what regulators called a “massive fraud scheme” to backdate stock options.
