BofA Plans Major Brea Expansion

Bank of America Corp. plans a major expansion of its Brea complex, according to the bank’s top Orange County executive.

The bank, the largest operating in OC by deposits, plans to add about a thousand jobs in Brea, said Kim Burdick, president of the OC market for Bank of America and head of its Southland premier banking.

Bank of America employs a couple thousand people in Brea now.

The expansion follows Bank of America’s $35 billion buy of credit card issuer MBNA Corp. last year.

Bank of America plans to create a large West Coast credit card service center in Brea, according to Burdick.

“This is a great opportunity at job creation here in Orange County,” he said.

About 650 people would be hired. Another 350 jobs would transfer from elsewhere.

Bank of America now uses the Brea site as a service center for mortgages, business banking clients, credit collections and hiring and recruitment.

Brea was selected for expansion because of unused space there and advanced technology at the site.

“It became a logical site to combine those two businesses,” Burdick said.
